Basic Skincare Routine

Are you just starting a skincare routine or having trouble finding products you love?

I was in a similar position just a few months ago. During an appointment with my dermatologist she asked me about my skin care routine and that’s when I realized I didn’t really have one. She suggested starting out with a basic face cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. She also explained to me that I have combination skin, meaning my skin is dry on my cheeks and oily in my T-zone. Understanding this made it possible for me to cater products I purchased to my skin type. It definitely takes some trial and error testing different products, but I have finally found what works for my combination skin-type.

I LOVE Aveda. Their products are all natural so I feel okay about putting them on my face!

CleanserBOTANICAL KINETICS™ PURIFYING GEL CLEANSER. I love this because it’s super light and doesn’t feel like it’s drying out my skin.

TonerBOTANICAL KINETICS™ TONING MIST. The mist is awesome because it’s easy to apply and gets evenly dispersed all over my face. Plus, the smell of this (and all of these products for that matter) is fresh and clean!

MoisturizerBOTANICAL KINETICS™ INTENSE HYDRATING RICH CREME. This is a little bit of a heavier creme and one that I save for the winter when my skin is dryer. Sometimes I just apply it to my cheeks and avoid my T-zone where I often get oily. In the summer, I just use Aveeno Daily Moisturizer. It’s a light and an inexpensive option.

Eye Cream- TULASĀRA™ WEDDING MASQUE EYE OVERNIGHT CREME. Because I’m now entering my mid twenties I figured it’s about time to start using eye cream. I’ve tried the Aveda Wedding Masque Eye Overnight Creme and It’s really gentle yet thick and creamy. However, like most eye creams it’s pretty pricey. If you’re not willing to splurge just yet on an eye cream (like me) there are a ton of products at your local drugstore that do the trick. I use L’Oreal Paris Skin Expertise Eye Defense Eye Cream. It’s affordable and I like how light it feels on the sensitive skin around my eyes. Try to not totally rubbing this in, to allow the product to soak into your skin.

Since I’ve started this routine I can tell my skin looks so much more refreshed and evenly toned. I highly suggest if you don’t have a skincare routine yet to start out with a simple cleanser, toner, and moisturizer like the ones I’ve linked here!
